Manheim Township, Lancaster County – Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) needed larger quarters than their existing location in Akron was able to provide. They located a site in Manheim Township near the Lancaster Airport. The project involved the subdivision of a 6.5 acre parcel from an existing farm, and the construction of a new 22,000 sq.ft. building containing offices for MDS staff and warehouse space for the storage of resources used in MDS’ disaster recovery service. Complicating the project was the presence of shallow bedrock under the site. Diehm worked extensively with MDS and their excavating contractor to minimize the cost of excavation of the bedrock. Diehm successfully navigated the zoning and subdivision/land development approval processes and provided construction survey. MDS relocated to their new facility in 2010 and is busier than ever helping people throughout the United States and Canada suffering through disaster.
